![]() Slices of crisp bacon were on the plate and a couple pieces of fruit. It was 2 halves topped with poached eggs and a generous amount of lobster all covered with Hollandaise. The “BLT” Benny was a bacon, lobster and tomato egg benedict served on English muffins topped with lime Hollandaise. There was a packet of butter on the plate and a side cup of wonderful maple syrup. It was not too thick or thin but nicely tender with good flavor. They were available with lots of toppings but I really wanted to try a plain one. An assortment of umbrellas and canopies help to provide shade in the dining area. There is a window into the bakery that you could look into going to the bathrooms and also one to the gift shop. They had a stage like the main dining area does but it was not active. We got there pretty early and still had to wait 45 minutes – a fairly accurate estimate by the greeter – but it was pleasant across the street and the drinks were actually a $1 cheaper. Roosters roam through the tables and lots of funky decorations give the place lots of character. The very casual spot does not take reservations but has a good sized bar across the street with chairs, tables, music stage and ping-pong table. Just run a lime wedge along the edge of the glass.Blue Heaven is a well known destination in Key West serving breakfast, lunch and dinner – all al fresco. ![]() And besides, it goes so well with the drink. It’ll hold the graham cracker crumbs on much better. This drink is easy to make, even for novice bartenders.īe sure to use lime juice (rather than water) to rim the glass. Rim the glasses ahead of time, and you’ve got a very easy drink to serve to guests. It’s also terrific served big batch style at parties because you can mix it up in a pitcher ahead of time. Naturally, the Key Lime Martini makes a great dessert drink. That beautiful light golden color contrasts with the darker golden graham cracker crumbs on the rim. It’s just an ounce, which is all you need to mellow the other flavors, bring it all together and give it some of the rich texture of the pie. It just enhances the other flavors and thickens the drink.Īnd then there’s the heavy cream, which adds creaminess. There’s also a small amount of coconut cream, but it’s in such a small quantity that it doesn’t add much coconut flavor. There are actually versions of this recipe that don’t include pineapple juice, but it brings some nice notes to the taste. It just enhances the lime and makes it a little bit sweeter. Pineapple juice may not sound like it belongs in a Key Lime Martini, either.īut you don’t get a pineapple flavor from it. And that’s another ingredient that might surprise you. The vanilla contrasts nicely with the tart lime and acidic pineapple juice. It’s what makes it taste like the pie, adding a rich vanilla flavor. And it turns out a lot of the other ingredients – especially the key lime juice – are very tart, so you actually need that flavor to balance things out. Key lime pie doesn’t have a strong vanilla taste at all.īut vanilla vodka isn’t all that intense. ![]() This drink has two ounces of vanilla vodka, and at first that sounds like too much. Like the pie, the Key Lime Martini keeps you coming back for another taste, because you just can’t stop enjoying the strangeness of a flavor that’s equal parts tart and mellow and sweet. The lime is nice and sharp, but this drink is also sweet and creamy. Key lime is a transporting flavor that takes you away to the tropics the instant your tastebuds start to analyze it.
